Physician Extender

The Associate Physician (AP) Acute Care role at Northern Health Authority is a dynamic position that requires a skilled and compassionate healthcare professional to provide high-quality patient care in an acute inpatient setting. As a key member of the healthcare team, the AP will work closely with physicians and surgeons to deliver medical and surgical care to patients in the hospital and Emergency Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with acute, chronic, and complex illnesses, diseases, injuries, and functional disorders of all body systems.
- Provide history and physical examinations, advance care planning, and order diagnostic studies, including laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and electrocardiographic examinations.
- Administer medications normally considered part of the practice of hospital medicine, working in collaboration with the Attending Physician.
Qualifications
- Eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) in the Associate Physician – Acute class, under sponsorship of Northern Health Authority.
- Canadian Citizenship, permanent residency, or the ability to live and work in British Columbia.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification prior to commencing orientation and maintenance of such certification throughout employment.
Requirements
- Excellent English communication skills, including with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Computer and written communication skills, including order entry, clinical documentation, and review of relevant diagnostic information and health history.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment and build relationships with other healthcare professionals and disciplines.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
