Role Summary



As a key member of the Northern Health Authority (NHA) medical team, the Acute Care Physician Extender plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in acute inpatient settings. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this position works under the supervision of an identified member of the hospital medical staff to deliver exceptional medical services to patients with acute, chronic, and complex illnesses, diseases, injuries, and functional disorders of all body systems.



This position is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and providing consultation to patients under the supervision of a Family Physician (FP) or Specialist. The Acute Care Physician Extender will work collaboratively with Attending Physicians to provide care in a team-based environment, adhering to unit policies and AP Program Accreditation standards.



The ideal candidate will possess excellent English communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work effectively within a team. Proficiency in order entry, clinical documentation, and reviewing diagnostic information and patient health history is essential.



Key Responsibilities




  1. Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients under supervision
  2. Work collaboratively with Attending Physicians in a team-based environment
  3. Provide care to patients in critical/acute care settings
  4. Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions
  5. Maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification


Requirements




  • Eligibility for registration with the CPSBC in the Associate Physician – Acute class
  • Canadian Citizenship, permanent residency, or the ability to live and work in British Columbia
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Computer literacy and ability to work effectively within a team
