Job Title: Stewarding Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Stewarding Supervisor to join our team at the Westin Nova Scotian. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation in our kitchen, ensuring that our guests and staff have a safe and healthy environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead by Example: As a Stewarding Supervisor, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation in our kitchen, ensuring that our guests and staff have a safe and healthy environment.
  • Train and Coach: You will be responsible for training and coaching our kitchen staff on proper sanitation and cleaning procedures, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge to maintain our high standards.
  • Monitor and Maintain: You will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining our kitchen equipment, ensuring that it is in good working order and that our staff have access to the necessary tools and resources to do their jobs effectively.
  • Ensure Compliance: You will be responsible for ensuring that our kitchen staff comply with all safety and sanitation regulations, including OSHA guidelines and hotel standards.

Requirements:

  • Experience: At least 2 years of progressive experience in a hotel or related field, with prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certifications: Current Safe Food Handler Certification required.
  • Skills: Familiarity with Ecolab chemicals, correct cleaning and sanitizing procedures, proficiency with standard cleaning equipment, and ability to use computers and related software.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, stand for long periods of time without sitting or leaning, bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body and arms, work under variable temperatures and noise levels, and have near vision - the ability to see details at close range.
  • Availability: Flexible availability for morning (AM) and late shifts (PM), covering 5 days across Monday-Sunday.

Duties and Functions:

  • Comply with Hotel Standards: Comply at all times with Hotel standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Supervise Kitchen Staff: Supervise activities of kitchen stewards ensuring proper utensil sanitation and storage.
  • Ensure Safety and Sanitation: Comply and assure compliance with all safety standards, monitor and comply with all loss prevention guidelines, and promote a team environment and follow incentive programs to improve and maintain departmental morale.
  • Maintain Kitchen Areas: Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, loading dock area, and cafeteria floor according to WHMIS regulations and hotel requirements.
  • Ensure Equipment Sanitation: Ensure all kitchen equipment; pots, etc. are sanitized according to WHMIS regulations and hotel requirements and clean items are stored properly.
  • Ensure Stock Levels: Ensure kitchen areas, restaurant, banquet and service areas are stocked with required wares, utensils and equipment.
  • Check Equipment Condition: Check working conditions of equipment and machinery according to specifications, and notify Department Head of any damage or misuse of equipment.
  • Other Duties: Other duties as required.
