Job Summary:

The Second Engineer is a critical role within the Engine Department, responsible for the day-to-day operation of personnel and machinery. This position reports directly to the Chief Engineer and is accountable for ensuring safe standards of operation in all departmental activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of machinery, in line with the Chief Engineer's directions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including the Canada Shipping Act and Regulations, Canada Labour Code, and Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of Engine Department personnel.
  • Develop and implement procedures to optimize efficiency and productivity.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless vessel operations.

Requirements:

  • 1st or 2nd Class Motor Engineer Certificate.
  • Specialized Oil Tanker Endorsement.
  • Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats.
  • Advanced fire fighting certification.
  • Marine Medical certification.
  • Personnel with Security Duties.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years recent experience working on tanker vessels.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and adjust work procedures for maximum efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of English language.
