Position Overview:

Heddle Shipyards stands as the premier ship repair and construction firm in Canada, situated on the Great Lakes. The organization is entering a significant growth phase, propelled by the initiatives outlined in Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy. The ideal candidate will take charge of substantial government projects, including Vessel Life Extensions and new construction initiatives. Additionally, the role involves overseeing key aspects of the shipyard modernization efforts, particularly in the procurement and installation of advanced robotic systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs and mentors the project team
  • Oversees project communications, both internally and externally
  • Cultivates relationships with clients
  • Defines project scope in collaboration with the Tendering Department
  • Develops project timelines and resource allocation documents for each project
  • Assigns, prioritizes, and supervises project activities, establishing milestones and deadlines
  • Manages project resources and associated costs
  • Monitors project performance through relevant KPIs, reporting weekly to the Director of Project Management & Engineering
  • Implements and oversees changes, communicating updates to clients
  • Identifies, mitigates, and manages potential risks
  • Ensures deliverables meet quality and industry standards
  • Performs additional project-related tasks as necessary
  • Facilitates and participates in client meetings
  • Ensures client satisfaction and manages feedback through appropriate channels
  • Coordinates with the Production Manager/Supervisors to provide necessary information and resources
  • Promotes continuous improvement practices
  • Acts as a technical resource for the Project Management Department
  • Assists the Purchasing Department with material acquisition

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field
  • Over 10 years of experience in construction management
  • More than 10 years of experience in marine repair, maintenance, or construction
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple large-scale projects with complex scopes and diverse stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of fostering change and gaining support for innovative concepts
  • Proficient in interpreting engineered design drawings
  • Strong computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project), CAD, etc.
