About the Role

Dollarama is seeking a highly skilled Food Safety Associate to join our team. As a key member of our compliance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our food products meet and exceed quality and safety standards for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure the effective functioning of Dollarama's preventive control plan, in accordance with Canadian regulations;
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders such as buyers, legal team members, and suppliers to support the procurement process and regulatory evaluation of new products;
  • Investigate quality and safety issues raised internally or by government agencies;
  • Take corrective actions and follow up as needed. Demonstrate speed and efficiency during investigations and ensure that issues are resolved quickly with buyers and suppliers;
  • Prepare investigation reports and provide corrective actions taken to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency as needed;
  • Act as a key member for product recalls or withdrawals;
  • Collect and examine technical labels, evaluate packaging, product formulations, and related documentation to ensure compliance of product labeling with regulations, guidelines, and internal standards;
  • Conduct sample evaluations as part of the food product control plan or, as the case may be, during product investigations, to ensure the consistency of product quality and determine permanent acceptability standards for existing products; and
  • Participate in production site technical visits and complete visit control lists.

Requirements

  • University degree, diploma, or DEC in food science, nutrition, chemistry, or a related field;
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in food safety or quality assurance acquired in the retail food products industry or in related production environments, with perishable products of multiple categories;
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Food and Drugs Act, the Safe Food for Canadians Act, and regulations made under these laws;
  • Thorough knowledge of HACCP analysis and food safety requirements;
  • Experience with product recalls and crisis management;
  • Ability to research regulatory questions and formulate recommendations for their resolution;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced high-volume environment; and
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
