Job Title: Shipping Assistant

Job Summary:

Canam is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Shipping Assistant to join our team at our steel joist and deck manufacturing plant in Mississauga, ON. As a Shipping Assistant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods and materials to our customers.

Responsibilities:

* Prepare accurate and timely bills of lading, ensuring that quantities, destinations, and routing are correct
* Maintain the department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping records
* Plan loads in expedition software, forecasting and reporting necessary capacity week to week
* Coordinate with production planning to ensure material is produced as required
* Collaborate with project managers to coordinate production and shipping activities, and to resolve complaints or eliminate delays
* Dispatch external carriers, request permits and escorts as required
* Communicate with customers regarding shipping and delivery inquiries
* Coordinate with internal purchasing department for incoming materials to be received
* Maintain trailer inventory and logs
* Facilitate communication and scheduling with customers and internal departments
* Adhere to established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, including quality improvement objectives, safety, and environmental standards
* Provide backup and vacation coverage to other department personnel
* Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment

Requirements:

* 3-4 years of experience in a transportation or shipping administrative coordination role
* Strong multitasking and prioritization skills, with attention to detail
* Excellent English language skills for verbal and written communication with internal and external customers
* Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Google Suite applications
* Data entry and accounting skills, with a willingness to learn new in-house applications
* Ability to work in an open-format office in a team environment
* Outgoing, friendly, and patient personality, with a professional approach
* Strong team-oriented work ethic and commitment to organizational values
* Punctuality, maturity, reliability, and ability to work well under pressure with frequent interruptions
