Job Description

Canam is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Shipping Assistant to join our team at our steel joist and deck manufacturing plant in Mississauga, ON.

The Shipping Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our shipping department, working closely with production planning, project managers, and internal departments to coordinate production and shipping activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate bills of lading and verify shipments against orders
  • Maintain the department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping records
  • Plan loads in expedition software and coordinate with production planning to ensure material is produced as required
  • Coordinate with project managers to resolve complaints or eliminate delays
  • Dispatch external carriers and request permits and escorts as needed
  • Communicate with customers regarding shipping and delivery inquiries
  • Coordinate with internal purchasing department for incoming materials
  • Maintain trailer inventory and logs
  • Provide back-up and vacation coverage to other department personnel
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment

Requirements:

  • Three to four years' experience in a transportation or shipping administrative coordination role
  • Excellent English language skills and strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Google Suite applications
  • Strong data entry and accounting skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and possess a professional approach
  • Punctuality, maturity, reliability, and ability to work well under pressure
