Job Title: Apprentice Project Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Apprentice Project Engineer to join our team at the Ministry of Transportation. As an Apprentice Project Engineer, you will play a key role in managing and coordinating highway improvement projects, working closely with ministry staff, senior management, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a variety of planning, preliminary, and detailed-design highway improvement projects, delivered by both in-house and outsourced resources.
  • Liaise and work with ministry staff, senior management, internal stakeholders, external agencies, municipalities, developers, consultants, and the public.
  • Lead/coordinate project teams, acquire, administer, and evaluate engineering service providers, and resolve planning and engineering issues.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, senior officials, and the public.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering, including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, and construction practices.
  • Assess and recommend solutions to problems in terms of applicable legislation, engineering quality, economic benefit, and environmental impact.
Requirements:
  • Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Project management skills to manage projects, including acquisition and management of consultants.
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship management skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, senior officials, and the public.
  • Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering.
Working Conditions:

This is a permanent, full-time position located at 1355 John Counter Blvd, Kingston, East Region. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and priorities.
