Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Engineer to join our team at the Ministry of Transportation. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing a variety of planning, preliminary and/or detailed-design highway improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of highway improvement projects, including acquisition and management of consultants.
  • Liaise and work with ministry staff, senior management, internal stakeholders, external agencies, municipalities, developers, consultants, and the public.
  • Lead/coordinate project teams and resolve planning and engineering issues.
  • Acquire, administer and evaluate engineering service providers.
Requirements
  • Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Project Management and Leadership Skills: Proven experience in project management, including acquisition and management of consultants.
  • Interpersonal, Relationship-Building and Communication Skills: Proven effective interpersonal and relationship management skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, senior officials and the public.
  • Technical Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of theories, principles and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering, including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, construction practices.
  • Knowledge of alternative delivery methods, such as functional outsourcing, Total Project Management and Design Build.
  • Sound analytical skills and good judgement to assess and recommend solutions to problems in terms of applicable legislation, engineering quality, economic benefit and environmental impact.
Working Conditions

This is a permanent, full-time position with the Ministry of Transportation. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate strong project management and leadership skills.
