We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Engineering Project Manager to join our team at the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a variety of planning, preliminary, and detailed-design highway improvement projects, delivered by both in-house and outsourced resources. This includes liaising and working with ministry staff, senior management, internal stakeholders, external agencies, municipalities, developers, consultants, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage planning, preliminary, and detailed-design highway improvement projects
  • Liaise with ministry staff, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Lead and coordinate project teams
  • Direct and supervise assigned staff
  • Acquire and administer engineering service providers
  • Lead public consultation programs
  • Resolve planning and engineering issues
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • Valid class G driver's license or equivalent
  • Project management skills to manage projects and acquire consultants
  • Well-developed leadership skills to assign and schedule work
  • Proven oral and written communications skills to write reports and present proposals
  • Proven effective interpersonal and relationship management skills to establish and maintain working relationships
  • Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of civil engineering related to highway engineering
  • Working knowledge of related fields, including geotechnical, pavement design, structural, drainage, surveys, electrical, traffic, construction practices
  • Knowledge of alternative delivery methods, such as functional outsourcing, Total Project Management, and Design Build
  • Sound analytical skills and good judgment to assess and recommend solutions to problems
