Job Summary:

Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic DSB is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to support students with special needs in a long-term assignment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and tracking of instructional programs to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Prepare and maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment, adhering to Board policies and directives.
  • Provide personal and hygienic care to students, including toileting, catheterizing, and life skills support.
  • Administer medication in accordance with Board Policy and Administration Regulations.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to implement occupational, physio, speech, and other therapy or behavioral programs.
  • Supervise students during in-school and out-of-school activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Participate in Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC) meetings and case conferences as required.
  • Perform physical duties such as lifting and positioning students, and implement behavior management systems as needed.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as Educational Assistant Program, Child Youth Worker, or Autism Support Worker.
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs and knowledge of strategies to promote student success.
  • Knowledge of Board policies and directives, including Physical Intervention, Discipline, and Administration of Medication and/or Special Services.
  • Ability to operate audio-visual and office equipment, including computers, projectors, and photocopiers.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and other support staff.
