Sensity Deafblind and Sensory Support Network of Canada is seeking a Full-Time Intervenor to provide essential support in Campbellford, ON. This role is focused on enhancing communication and facilitating daily living for individuals experiencing dual sensory impairments, enabling them to lead more independent lives. This position offers an opportunity for personal development and skill acquisition.

Available Shifts:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week (day shifts)

Key Responsibilities:

The Intervenor plays a crucial role in supporting communication and daily living for individuals with dual sensory impairments. This position offers a chance to develop new skills and foster personal growth.

  • Assisting individuals in their home and community settings.
  • Utilizing communication strategies to convey information effectively.
  • Empowering individuals to engage in and succeed in all aspects of daily living, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks.
  • Providing personal care as needed (e.g., lifts and transfers, toileting, personal hygiene, medication administration).
  • Helping to establish and support individual goals and objectives.
  • Contributing to program development.
  • Ensuring thorough documentation and record-keeping.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a college diploma or certificate in the Intervenor for Deafblind Persons program, or related fields such as Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Community Services Worker (CSW), Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA), Personal Support Worker (PSW), or Behavioural Science.
  • Experience in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors.
  • Experience in assisting individuals with mental health conditions.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed Exact English (SEE).
  • A valid Class G driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, a clean driving record, and the ability to obtain automobile insurance with a minimum liability of $2 million are required.

Training Program:

  • Comprehensive in-house training will be provided to equip you with the necessary skills to support our clients.

Additional Information:

  • Employment is contingent upon a successful Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
  • This role requires repetitive hand motions, good manual dexterity, and moderate physical activity including stooping, bending, and lifting. The ability to lift between 35 lbs to 50 lbs occasionally is necessary. Work will be conducted in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • French language skills (written and verbal) are an asset but not mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills in both verbal and written English are essential.
