Job Description:

The Culinary Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the preparation and presentation of meals in our school cafeteria setting. This role requires strong leadership skills, culinary expertise, and attention to detail to ensure a safe and healthy dining environment.



Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement creative menu plans that incorporate nutritious and delicious food options while adhering to our School Food and Beverage Policy PPM150.


  • Liaise with suppliers to order required ingredients and equipment.


  • Lead and supervise the preparation and service of grab-and-go, cold line, and hot line food items to meet customer expectations.


  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations, including provincial and federal legislation, FoodSafe, and HACCP standards.


  • Ensure all staff receive necessary training and adhere to proper procedures and best practices.


  • Monitor sales volume and adjust production volumes and menu plans accordingly to maximize sales and reduce waste.


  • Analyze tasks and processes to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency and output while maintaining safety and consistency.


  • Inspect equipment and communicate maintenance needs to ensure seamless operations.


  • Foster a positive working environment by addressing employee concerns and promoting open communication.


  • Stay informed about operational changes and communicate updates to staff while collaborating with Senior Management to update training policies and documentation.


  • Collaborate with kitchen staff and Operations Manager to control costs through inventory management, minimizing spoilage and waste, and portioning food items according to recipe yield and budget requirements.


  • Serve as an ambassador for the company, upholding excellent client relations and ethics at all times.




Requirements:

  • Culinary experience and excellence are essential.


  • A minimum of five years of experience in the food service industry leading high-volume culinary teams is required.


  • ServeSafe or FoodSafe certification is mandatory.


  • Red Seal Chef status is considered an asset.


  • A valid G driver's license with a clean driver's abstract is preferred.


  • Superior written and verbal communication skills are essential.


  • Able to handle employee and customer concerns with tact.


  • Familiarity with computer software, including POS equipment, is required.


  • Ability to lift between 0-50 pounds from floor to shoulder height is necessary.


  • Frequent standing and walking are required.


  • Able to work in hot or cold temperatures.


  • Candidates must complete a Vulnerable Sector Record check.




Salary:

$60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
