About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Building Performance Engineer to join our team at Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. As a key member of our Toronto Building Science Team, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional client service and developing technical expertise to deliver practical, creative solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct energy studies for new and existing buildings to identify opportunities for energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Perform whole building energy modeling, interpret results, make recommendations, and prepare reports documenting analysis and results.
  • Review architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with energy standards and best practices.
  • Perform research and analysis tasks for various research projects, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting data, and preparing reports and presentations.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to clearly and accurately illustrate findings and recommendations.
  • Liaise with the consultant team to develop commissioning plans and reports to senior staff.
  • Perform building envelope component thermal modeling analyses and prepare reports documenting analysis and results.
  • Conduct energy efficiency assessments of existing buildings, identifying components, systems, and assemblies to reduce energy consumption, and complete energy savings estimates.
  • Perform Life Cycle Analysis to determine the embodied emissions of buildings and identify opportunities to reduce the carbon footprint of the buildings.
  • Prepare energy-related guidelines for various client groups and industry stakeholders.
  • Prepare educational and marketing materials for internal and external presentation.
  • Review and assess emerging codes, standards, and policies in the industry and prepare summary briefs for teams and practice leaders to help shape the company's agenda on energy and carbon reduction.
  • Support LEED/WELL/etc certifications.
Requirements
  • Degree in Applied Science or Engineering.
  • LEED GA or LEED AP designation is an asset.
  • WELL AP designation is an asset.
  • Registered as a P.Eng with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
  • Additional courses related to building science, Passive House, sustainability, and energy efficiency are an asset.
  • 5 years' previous experience in related fields is an asset.
  • Experience in a consulting firm environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience in a construction firm is considered an asset.
Skills
  • Strong interest in energy efficiency and sustainable building design.
  • Excellent understanding of building science, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of green building programs (LEED, WELL, Passive House, Built Green, BREEAM, etc.).
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient building principles and target-based modeling assessment.
  • Experience with energy modeling software such as IES VE, Energy Plus, and/or DesignBuilder is an asset.
  • Experience with Passive House building standard and the PHPP modeling tool is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, in person or remotely, as a part of a national building performance group.
  • Excellent ability to communicate with clients and peers, both verbally and in written format.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with clients, staff, and consultants.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills.
  • Good ability to shift focus between changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to lead a small group of professionals.
