Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate, implement, and uphold performance testing strategies and methodologies, ensuring alignment with project goals and schedules.
- Craft and develop performance testing scripts utilizing JMeter, Java, and Fiddler, ensuring efficiency, maintainability, and scalability.
- Utilize monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Datadog, and Splunk to assess, analyze, and enhance application performance, identifying potential bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
- Conduct garbage collection analysis, heap and thread assessments, and other diagnostic procedures to troubleshoot performance challenges and deliver actionable insights.
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to promote performance tuning initiatives, recommending and executing optimizations to enhance application performance, stability, and resource efficiency.
- Provide architectural expertise and guidance to ensure that application design and implementation are optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Establish and uphold performance engineering best practices, processes, and guidelines, ensuring consistent adherence by the team.
- Mentor and train junior performance engineers, fostering their skill development and career progression.
- Engage in continuous research to stay abreast of the latest performance engineering tools, techniques, and industry trends, integrating them into company practices as appropriate.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience in performance engineering, emphasizing performance testing, tuning, and troubleshooting. Strong programming capabilities in Java, with experience in JMeter scripting and Fiddler.
- Proficiency in performance engineering tools such as JMeter, Dynatrace, Datadog, and Splunk.
- Comprehensive understanding of application architecture, with the ability to analyze and optimize performance at system, database, and application levels.
- Experience with garbage collection analysis, heap and thread diagnostics, and other techniques for troubleshooting performance issues.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins and GitLab CI is essential for automating performance testing within the software development lifecycle.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes is crucial for optimizing application performance in containerized settings.
- Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, along with their performance optimization techniques, is vital for a performance engineer.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure is important for performance engineers working on cloud-based applications.
- Knowledge of load balancing strategies and content delivery networks (CDNs) is essential for optimizing application performance in distributed environments.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; or relevant experience.
