About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Dietitian to provide competent, safe, and ethical professional practice to patients, families, and communities. As a key member of the Nutrition and Food Services team, you will advise on diet and food and nutrition across all health sectors, providing leadership in team efforts to support the nutritional health of patients.

You will be responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy using the Nutrition Care Process, participating in the Dietetic Practicum and Internship program, and preceptoring and mentoring Dietetic Students. This is a multi-unit/multi-site position, with regular assignments to shifts at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, Glace Bay Hospital, and Northside General Hospital.

We are looking for a Dietitian with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, a Dietetic Internship Program, and current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists. A minimum of one year of working experience as a dietitian is preferred, with inpatient clinical nutrition experience and competency in dysphagia management, enteral and parenteral nutrition being assets.

About You
  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at a recognized University
  • Dietetic Internship Program required
  • Current registration (or eligibility) with the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists required
  • Minimum one (1) year working experience as a dietitian preferred
  • Inpatient clinical nutrition experience is an asset
  • Competency in dysphagia management, enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Experience counselling patients
  • Current WHMIS an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and work under pressure of time limitations
  • Demonstrated participation in continuing education and upgrading of skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the interprofessional healthcare team
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
