Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Commercial Operations Director to lead our commercial underwriting and lending initiatives. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mortgage lending and underwriting, with a proven track record of driving business growth and improving operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.
  • Lead commercial underwriting and lending initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve underwriting and administrative systems, maximizing effectiveness and achieving excellence.
  • Monitor risks and identify escalating issues related to implementation and performance of projects.
  • Work closely with the Business Risk Management team to support the business in identifying, assessing, measuring, and mitigating risks.
  • Evaluate business partners, including agents, appraisers, and environmental consultants, and maintain fraud, quality, and performance metrics.
  • Responsible for reviewing and assessing all Servicer onboarding documentation, including financial statements and policy/procedures.
  • Develop tactical strategies to support the overall commercial business strategy and achieve objectives.
  • Break down strategic problems and analyze data to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Drive productivity improvement on major projects by identifying, coordinating, and leading efforts.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Economics, Finance, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of mortgage lending/underwriting experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to identify risks and remove roadblocks.
  • Excellent underwriting and analytical skills, with the ability to make prudent decisions.
  • Strong understanding of the real estate and economic environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage high volumes of demands and often competing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and ability to manage multiple teams.
  • Able to multi-task and flourish in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/influence others to achieve department and corporate goals.
  • Well-developed negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship building and listening skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage a team through fostering a collaborative environment.
