About the Role

Family Services of Greater Vancouver is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Indigenous Youth Outreach Worker to join our Directions Youth Services team. As a key member of our outreach program, you will work closely with Indigenous youth in the community, providing support, guidance, and connection to essential resources and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide outreach services to Indigenous youth at risk of homelessness or experiencing homelessness, building trusting relationships and connecting them with culturally appropriate resources and services.
  • Develop and deliver programming and workshops that incorporate Indigenous practices and knowledge, reflecting the needs and interests of Indigenous youth in urban settings.
  • Collaborate with community agencies, government ministries, and knowledge keepers to develop youth case management plans that address the unique needs and identities of Indigenous youth.
  • Work independently and in pairs in the community, responding to emerging needs and crises, and prioritizing tasks as they arise.
Requirements
  • Two-year post-secondary course or diploma in social work or youth care, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience working with Indigenous youth.
  • Knowledge of substance use, mental health, and sexual exploitation, as well as the Harm Reduction model.
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage aggressive behavior, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including carrying a full backpack with harm reduction supplies, water, and snacks while walking for 2-5 hours.
