Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Surrey Memorial Hospital. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing a variety of ultrasound procedures, including abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, small parts, and echocardiography.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receives and prepares patients for testing by reviewing patient history, correlating clinical history with examination, and explaining procedures to patients.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures using ultrasound and Doppler techniques to obtain images, labeling permanent records and archiving acquired data.
  • Assists in procedural rooms by setting up biopsy trays, assisting radiologists/cardiologists with interventional procedures, and providing support and comfort to patients.
  • Monitors patient during procedures, observing and responding to possible contrast media reactions or other emergency situations.
  • Checks resultant images for technical quality and completeness, prepares technical worksheet, and discusses images with radiologists/cardiologists.
  • Facilitates workflow by checking information on requisitions, regulating inpatient examination time, and arranging for transportation of patients.
  • Monitors equipment performance, performs quality control duties, and notifies supervisor of equipment malfunctions.
  • Demonstrates procedures and usage of equipment to staff, participates in orientation of new employees, and provides input to supervisors on individual's progress.
  • Participates in maintaining patient and hospital records, participates in team/department activities, and participates in approved research and special projects.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a recognized training program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography and Diagnostic General Sonography.
  • Certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Completion of Intravenous Therapy training course or applicable experience working in IV Therapy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for sonography procedures, aseptic techniques, safe work procedures, imaging acquisition applications, and digital imaging storage and distribution networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, operate related equipment, work independently and in collaboration with others, establish workload priorities, and perform CPR techniques.
