Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing a variety of ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, small parts, and echocardiography.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receiving and preparing patients for testing, including reviewing patient case history and correlating clinical history with examination to be performed
  • Performing ultrasound procedures on various sections of the body, including positioning patients, placing probes, and utilizing ultrasound and Doppler techniques
  • Assisting in procedural rooms, including setting up biopsy trays and assisting the radiologist/cardiologist with interventional procedures
  • Monitoring patient during procedures, including observing and responding to possible contrast media reactions or other emergency situations
  • Checking resultant images for technical quality and completeness, preparing technical worksheets, and discussing images with the radiologist/cardiologist
  • Facilitating the workflow of designated work area, including checking information on requisitions, regulating inpatient examination time, and arranging for transportation of patients
  • Monitoring equipment performance and performing quality control duties, including recording results and identifying malfunctioning equipment for repair
Requirements
  • Graduate of a recognized training program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography and Diagnostic General Sonography
  • Certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Completion of Intravenous Therapy training course or applicable experience working in IV Therapy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for sonography procedures, including abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular, small parts, and cardiac sonography
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, and other health care staff
