Sessional Instructor: Materials Specialist

We are seeking a highly qualified instructor to teach a course on Materials & Methods: Beadwork in the Faculty of Arts & Science. The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in art, design or a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience.
Course OverviewThis course addresses the history of beads specific to the Haudenosaunee (Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca and Tuscarora) with an emphasis on cultural and social changes from the 15th century to today. Students will explore wampum production, European glass bead trade, and beaded souvenir creation for tourist trade.
Responsibilities- Developing a comprehensive course outline, studio preparation, and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations, and final evaluations/reviews.
- Ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment, meeting academic and curricular requirements, and adhering to deadlines.
- A terminal degree in art, design or a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience.
- Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is considered an asset, but equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment.
The successful candidate will receive a per-course pay scale with a salary of $6871.00 (per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, as per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
