Visual Impairment Support Specialist

The TEEMA Group is seeking a skilled Visual Impairment Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in assisting teachers and certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for visually impaired students.
**Job Summary:**
This role involves implementing instructional programs designed by certificated staff, instructing students in various subjects, and compiling student assignments and progress. You will also be responsible for performing follow-through activities with visually impaired students, adapting classroom materials, and monitoring student progress and behavior.
**Responsibilities:**
- Implement instructional programs designed by certificated staff to meet the needs of visually impaired students.
- Instruct students individually or in small groups in various subjects, including self-care activities and daily living skills.
- Compile, review, and record student assignments and progress to ensure accurate tracking.
- Perform consistent follow-through activities with visually impaired students to support their academic and personal growth.
- Adapt classroom materials to meet the needs of visually impaired students, such as enlarging materials and preparing tactile aids.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, maintaining communication with school and program staff.
- Assist students with entering and leaving buildings, moving between classes, and boarding buses, determining the appropriate level of assistance.
- Support certificated staff with testing students, recording scores, and maintaining related files.
**Required Qualifications:**
- Knowledge of methods for working with visually impaired students and competency in Braille instruction.
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential matters, demonstrating strong organizational and communication skills.
- Dependable with good attendance and punctuality, holding a high school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience working with visually impaired or multi-disabled children, with relevant education, experience, and training.
- Licensing and Certification:
- Completion of 10 hours of continuing education in Braille competency or an accepted Braille competency test.
- Valid Washington State driver's license.
We offer a competitive salary range of $55,000 - $65,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
