We are seeking a Tenant Wellness Specialist to join our team, working collaboratively to enhance the services and support provided by the Housing division.
Under the direction of the Residential Maintenance Program Manager and Housing Support Services, the Tenant Wellness Specialist provides culturally informed services and guidance to tenants, including those facing housing challenges. This role involves assisting clients in accessing resources, offering support to help them maintain housing stability, and working with the team to promote wellness and resilience within the community. The Tenant Wellness Specialist will also help foster positive relationships and community connections while offering a welcoming and supportive approach to client care.
This role may also assist with showing tenants how to do small repairs on their rental homes to fix tenant caused
damage that may affect their housing stability to create an understanding of tenant responsibilities.
**This is a Full-Time term contract until March 31st, 2025, with the possibility of extension.**

**WHAT YOU'LL DO**
**Tenant Support and Advocacy**
- Provide exceptional customer service to community members at risk of homelessness, those experiencing homelessness, and SIB employees with housing-related needs.
- Assist tenants in maintaining good standing through proactive support, including assisting with and monitoring repayment agreements.
- Implement individualized early intervention plans, programs, and workshops.
- Conduct outreach efforts to identify at-risk individuals or families, preventing housing issues from escalating.
- Deliver education programs on housing stability to current tenants, community members, and students.
- Offer advocacy, mediation, and support services to address the root causes of housing instability and promote long-term solutions.
**Administrative and Operational Responsibilities**
- Review housing waitlist applicants to determine eligibility based on established qualification criteria.
- Respond to inquiries, questions, and concerns regarding the Housing division and its services.
- Maintain professional, accurate, and confidential client service records.
- Immediately report all health and safety concerns to the Residential Maintenance Manager.
**Culturally Sensitive and Collaborative Service Delivery**
- Provide all services in a culturally respectful and sensitive manner, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
- Collaborate with other departments and programs to ensure wraparound support services for tenants and community members.
**Other Duties**
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
**WHAT YOU BRING**
**Qualifications**
- Formal education or training in housing or a related field an asset. Other forms of post-secondary education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers, will be considered.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience working within Indigenous communities, focusing on housing.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
**Preferred**:
- Lived experience as a member of a First Nations community.
- Knowledge and understanding of Seabird Island’s culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics.
- Ability to respond quickly and professionally to community or colleague needs and inquiries.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities and provide great client service.
- Proven experience to resolve conflicts and use good problem solving and judgment skills.
