About the Role

Torys' Legal Services Centre (LSC) in Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled Litigation Review Specialist to join our eDiscovery services group. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with legal professionals and eDiscovery technology specialists to conduct electronic evidence reviews in complex litigation, competition, privacy, regulatory investigations, and tax matters.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Electronic Evidence Reviews: Conduct thorough reviews of electronic evidence in complex litigation, competition, privacy, regulatory investigations, and tax matters using industry-leading eDiscovery document review software tools and platforms, preferably Relativity.
  2. Quality Control and Oversight: Oversee and quality-check review and coding decisions of document review teams for relevance, responsiveness, privilege, and other legal issues.
  3. Liaison with Litigators: Liaise with litigators on substantive legal issues relating to the evidence, providing expert analysis and support.
  4. Data Analysis and Distillation: Analyze and distill data to aid the legal team in supporting or refuting facts and allegations in investigations or complex litigation.
  5. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with legal teams, law clerks, and eDiscovery analysts on review workflows and strategies, ensuring seamless communication and project execution.
  6. Substantive Review Support: Provide substantive review support, including quality control, on outsourced reviews to ensure successful project execution and service delivery to the department at the highest level.
  7. eDiscovery Best Practices: Work with the litigation lawyers and the litigation services teams to develop and implement eDiscovery best practices with respect to technology utilization and outside vendor engagement to maximize efficiencies and reduce client costs.
Requirements
  1. Post-Call Litigation Experience: Minimum 2 years of post-call litigation experience, including some exposure to document reviews in the context of civil litigation, regulatory investigations, or competition matters, and be in good standing with the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.
  2. eDiscovery Experience: Experience with one or more industry-leading eDiscovery document review software tools and platforms, preferably Relativity.
  3. Interpersonal and Analytical Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills, a commitment to shared success, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness.
  4. Communication and Collaboration: Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a broad range of legal and administrative professionals.
  5. Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and demanding deadlines, with a strong work ethic and flexibility when managing multiple projects and competing demands.
  6. Technical Skills: Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and other Microsoft applications.
  7. Language Skills: The ability to read and write French would be considered an asset.
