About the Role

We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our team in the Human Resources department at the City of St. Catharines.

This role will be responsible for providing comprehensive support across all HR functions, including recruitment and selection, labour relations, training and development, and compensation and benefit administration.

The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of relevant Acts and regulations, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Recruitment and Selection:
    • Coordinate job postings, interviews, reference checks, and onboarding processes
  • Labour Relations:
    • Schedule grievance meetings, assist in negotiation preparations, revise collective agreement documents, and maintain seniority lists
  • Benefits and Pension Administration:
    • Enroll new employees, maintain benefit databases, submit remittances, and provide benefit support and clarification of coverage
  • Records Management and HRIS Maintenance:
    • Perform data entry, process forms, maintain records and filing systems, and ensure accurate employee profiles in HRIS
Requirements
  • University degree in HR Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • Completion of coursework for a professional HR designation (e.g., CHRP)
  • 3 years of recent HR experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Strong knowledge of relevant Acts and regulations (e.g., OHSA, ESA, LRA, Human Rights Code, WSIB, Pension and Benefits Act, AODA)
