Job Overview:


We are seeking a qualified Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team at the York Region District School Board.



Job Summary

The successful candidate will have specific knowledge and training in school counselling, providing support to regular classroom teachers with specialized teaching strategies in regards to supporting mental health.



About the Role

This role requires experience working in an educational setting, providing training and support to teachers for students' social and emotional development, anxiety, and strategies to build student resilience and independence.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver preventative 'best-practice' interventions and related psycho-social development programs as approved by the Division.
  • Comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to the provision of Counselling services and learning supports.
  • Experience with making referrals for therapeutic support and outside agencies who support students and families.
  • Track caseload data and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling services, learning supports, and student responses to interventions.
  • Comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to records management.


Requirements

The successful candidate will possess:



  • Specific knowledge and training in school counselling.
  • Experience working in an educational setting.
  • Ability to provide training and support to teachers for students' social and emotional development, anxiety, and strategies to build student resilience and independence.


Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 per annum, based on the title and job requirements. Benefits include a pension plan and other perks.
