The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Analyst to join our team in the Office of Addictions and Mental Health. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing policies that promote the health and well-being of Nova Scotians.
In this role, you will work closely with intersectoral partners, including provincial, federal, and territorial colleagues, to provide expertise and advisory services on research and policy development. You will also work with senior staff on major policy, research, and procedural matters, and facilitate evidence-informed decision-making within the Office.
Primary Accountabilities- Develop, implement, and manage large projects, including strategic planning, policy development, and successful implementation.
- Lead identified Office functions, including research and policy.
- Develop and evaluate policy options and related background material.
- Prepare reports, briefing books, and responses relating to health system issues in Nova Scotia.
- Lead and/or participate in working groups on specific policy issues.
- Work within a team to coordinate stakeholder consultations and other public meetings.
- Prepare briefing notes and correspondence for senior staff on a wide range of matters related to the Office's mandate.
To be successful in this role, you will hold a bachelor's degree in a health-related field, plus six (6) years of progressive experience in the design and development of policies and programs. You will also demonstrate experience with:
- Progressively responsible research and analysis positions.
- Superior writing skills with proven experience in report writing and preparation of briefing materials.
- Strong leadership skills with proven ability to build collaborative working relationships.
- Knowledge of and/or experience within the provincial legislative environment.
- Computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with legislation which falls under the Office's mandate.
In addition to the above, you will have strong leadership skills, independent judgement, and initiative, as well as the ability to manage and conduct complex and specialized research and policy analysis. You will be well-organized, capable of managing change and competing priorities, and able to undertake high-level work under tight deadlines.
