About Our Opportunity

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Analyst to join our team in the Office of Mental Health and Addictions. As a key member of our team, you will provide expertise and advisory services to staff and partners on research and policy development, as well as work with senior staff on major policy, research, and procedural matters.

In this role, you will play a critical role in facilitating evidence-informed decision-making and will have the opportunity to work directly with provincial, inter-governmental, and community stakeholders. You will directly impact change across the health system, inclusive of health promotion, primary health care, acute care, continuing care, and mental health and addictions.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage large projects involving all phases of work from strategic planning and policy development through to successful implementation.
  • Lead identified Office functions, including research and policy.
  • Develop and evaluate policy options and related background material.
  • Lead aspects of the legislative process, including preparation of submissions to Executive Council.
  • Prepare reports, briefing books, and responses relating to health system issues in Nova Scotia.
  • Lead and/or participate in working groups on specific policy issues.
  • Work within a team to coordinate stakeholder consultations and other public meetings.
  • Prepare briefing notes and correspondence for senior staff on a wide range of matters related to OMHA's mandate.
Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a candidate with a bachelor's degree in a health-related field and six years of progressive experience in the design and development of policies and programs. You will demonstrate experience with research and analysis positions, superior writing skills, strong leadership skills, and knowledge of the provincial legislative environment.

You will also have experience with Microsoft Office programs and familiarity with legislation under the OMHA mandate. Strong leadership skills, independent judgment, and initiative are essential, as well as the ability to manage and conduct complex and specialized research and policy analysis.
