Job Summary:

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join the Home Oxygen Program team at George Pearson Centre in Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess clients and their oxygen systems in various settings, including homes, clinics, and community settings.
  • Provide ongoing respiratory care to clients with various illnesses and diseases, including acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Enhance the quality of life for clients and their families.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners to implement care and therapies for clients, including home oxygen equipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and best practice approaches in respiratory care.
  • Maintain and advance clinical competence.
  • Participate in committees, teams, and research projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada (HPTC) Credentialing Exam.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
  • Valid driver's license for local area travel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of the National Alliance of Respiratory Therapy Regulatory Bodies (NARTRB) National Competency Framework.
  • Broad knowledge of current respiratory care theory and practices within a client-centered model of care.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and develop/maintain collaborative relationships within a multi-disciplinary service delivery model.
  • Ability to adapt to the changing health system and understand the broad determinants of health.
  • Ability to assess client responses to care and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Skills in the use of respiratory and other equipment and techniques appropriate to the area of specialty.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in various settings and with diverse populations.
  • Computer literacy in common computer applications.
  • Ability to physically perform the duties of the position.
