Job Summary: The City of Iqaluit is seeking an experienced Interpreter/Translator to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality interpretation and translation services, ensuring effective communication between Councillors, staff, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpretation services in English and South Baffin Dialect Inuktitut languages at meetings and events.
  • Translate council and committee meeting minutes and correspondence to ensure proper communication.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and implement language services policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year experience in a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of computer and office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Inuktitut and English.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Assets:

  • Completion of a recognized Interpreter/Translator program.
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
