Job Title: GIS and Planning Technician Specialist

At the City of Iqaluit, we are seeking a highly skilled GIS and Planning Technician Specialist to support our team in designing, managing, analyzing, and functionality of spatial and relational data related to municipal land, community planning, and civil works.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting Senior Community Planners in various planning tasks, including community engagement, strategic planning, development facilitation, and compliance review. Proficiency in computer software programs for office use, including Microsoft Suite, spreadsheets, and statistical analysis programs, is required.

Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS and qGIS for analyzing spatial data and creating various maps to support community planning and civil works is also necessary. Experience in developing, managing, and analyzing relational databases is a plus.

The ideal candidate will possess a 2-year diploma in Environmental Technology, Public Policy, Geographic Information Systems, or equivalent, and a Class 5 Driver's License. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role.
