Job Summary
The Surgical Care Specialist will be responsible for promoting health and assessing, providing care for, and treating health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative, and rehabilitative means to surgical patients in order to attain or maintain optimal function.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and prioritize patient needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans to meet those needs.
- Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, performing venipunctures, and managing central lines.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure seamless transitions between departments.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams to promote a culture of patient-centered care.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices and guidelines in surgical care, applying this knowledge to improve patient outcomes.
- Contribute to a positive and respectful work environment, demonstrating a commitment to Brightshores' CARE Behaviours and LEAD Competencies.
Requirements
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario or eligibility.
- Physical Assessment course completion.
- Post-Anaesthetic Course completion.
- Minimum two years of current surgical experience within the last five years.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education.
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in nursing.
- BCLS certification.
- Additional education pertaining to surgery/medicine.
- Broad surgical experience, with experience in all sub-specialties.
