Surgical Care Specialist

Job Summary
The Surgical Care Specialist will be responsible for promoting health and assessing, providing care for, and treating health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic measures to adults and children during phase I and II recovery within the perianesthesia setting in Day Surgery and PACU.
Key Responsibilities
- Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
- Minimum 2 years PACU and acute care nursing experience within the past 5 years
- Broad surgical experience required in all subspecialties
- Successful completion of Post Anaesthetic Course within the last 3 years
- Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
- Coronary Care Certificate I or equivalent
- Current certification in:
o BCLS
o Venipucture to start an IV
o IV meds below the drip chamber
o PCA
o Epidural analgesia - Demonstrated computer skills in MS Outlook and Cerner applications (Powerchart and Surginet) or equivalent
- Excellent assessment skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
- Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
- Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and 'LEAD' Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others)
- Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing
- ACLS
- Care of CVP, endotracheal tubes/ventilated extubation of an endotracheal tube
