Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Care Specialist to join our team at Brightshores. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting health, assessing, and providing care to surgical patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and provide care to surgical patients to promote optimal function.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure patient safety and effective treatment.
  • Develop and implement care plans to meet the unique needs of each patient.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest surgical techniques and best practices.

Requirements

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario registration or eligibility.
  • Physical Assessment course.
  • Post-Anaesthetic Course.
  • Current surgical experience with a minimum of two years within the last five years.
  • Venipunctures to establish an IV required.
  • IV medications below the drip chamber.
  • Central line care – including tubing, dressing change, line removal, and blood sampling.
  • Management and care of patients with epidural analgesia.
  • Management and care of pumps.
  • Maintenance of TPN.
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing population and patient needs.
  • Willingness to escort patients via ambulance services when required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interviewing and patient assessment skills.
  • Interest and experience in patient education and health promotion.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education.
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records.
  • Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in nursing.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Additional Education pertaining to surgery/medicine.
  • Broad surgical experience preferred with experience in all sub-specialties.
