Key Responsibilities
  • Manage engineering project activities within a plant or business unit.
  • Prepare plans and forecasts of projects that achieve plant objectives.
  • Lead a diverse group of technical personnel in all phases of a project.
  • Interface with plant daily activities and special needs.
  • Provide project management and technical expertise at a high level of proficiency.
  • Implement and execute STELCO involvement in contractor safety and environmental compliance programs.
  • Provide technical assistance to operating and other staff functions.
  • Direct outside engineering firms in the preparation of detailed equipment and installation specifications and design drawings.
  • Conduct a thorough review of contractor installation proposals and recommend acceptable suppliers.
  • Manage a project portfolio with various stakeholders and other technical personnel.
  • Provide accurate forecasting of expenditures and schedule performance.
  • Provide mentoring of Management Associates, Cooperative Education, and Intern personnel.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current technology.
Requirements
  • BS degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years project management experience in the steel or related heavy industry.
  • Major project experience (>$10MM in scope) working with a gated capital project development process.
  • PMP designation is preferred.
Work Environment

This position is based in Nanticoke, Ontario with regular travel to Hamilton, Ontario.
