**General Manager Job Description**
Globex Inspection Services is seeking a General Manager who is a team leader to manage a group of employees within the heavy industrial steel manufacturing sector. The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing a range of day-to-day operations, covering both in-house staff and subcontractors alike while their influence extends beyond the worksite.
Our clients depend on Globex to perform inspections daily on various assets to report deficiencies. Inspections include structures such as: overhead cranes, crane runways, mill building inspections, including columns and roof trusses, walking working surfaces, concrete structures, below the hook lifting devices, and other miscellaneous structures found within heavy manufacturing facilities. Upon completion of the field services, the findings and any deficiencies are presented as the final deliverable in the form of an electronic report issued to our clients. As the General Manager, you will be working with a team of field inspectors to coordinate, execute, and oversee their daily field tasks to provide the completed deliverable to clients.
This position won't always be restricted to a single location and may oversee employees across multiple sites, predominately in the Hamilton and Nanitcoke areas. The bulk of the work will be completed during regular work hours, although it is likely this position will require more than 40 hours per week and may go into the weekends, as well as on an on-call basis.
This position does involve day travel and may include overnight travel.
This position requires one to ensure that all policies and regulations are upheld at all times. Essentially, the job is to maintain smooth operations on a daily and ongoing basis for maximized efficiency and safety.
**Education, Experience, and Skills**
- Associate/bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical studies and/or Business Management. Management experience in the steel and industrial sector is highly preferred.
- 5-7 of experience as a General Manager or similar role.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a company vehicle.
- Ability to operate a manlift.
- Experience in planning and budgeting.
- Outstanding organizational and leadership skills
- Project management, computer literacy, customer service, time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Industry-specific training and experience.
- Self-motivator with a logístical approach to problem-solving and an eye for meticulous detail. A natural leader and problem solver with a demonstrated sound work ethic.
- Understanding and able to interpret AutoCad drawings.
- Ability to work on a laptop/tablet and download/transfer digital photos from camera to electronic documents.
- Review and become familiar with inspection specifications specific to the structures being inspected.
- Ability to provide field sketches to show locations of various types of equipment and/or structures within the facility.
- Prepare regular reports for upper management.
- Provide solutions to issues (e.g. employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors)
- Comfortable processing terminations and providing technical assistance.
- Manage work schedules and timesheets for all staff.
- Assign duties, responsibilities, and scope to the field technicians.
- Reports directly to the Vice President and company owners.
- Ensure adherence to procedures, processes, policies and standards.
- Plan, organize, and manage activities of assigned staff and/or program.
- Assist in the development, administration, and implementation of training programs.
- Review and sign off on internal reports, field reports, and time sheets.
- Make sure each employee is on site and performs properly.
- Document all work performed using computer-based service reporting procedures.
- Responsible for directing employees in the field to the respective Division(s).
- To reach, climb, and/or grasp ladders or other tall structures. Field work involves walking, bending, and climbing on steps, ladders and walkways at various heights.
- Use of a wire brush or chipping hammer to remove debris of the structure inspected.
- Working in confined spaces.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Work within a manlift basket.
