**Research Specialist**

**Job Type**: Permanent, Onsite

**About the role**

Safety is the Core Value of Stelco and the individual will make Safety the #1 priority in the execution of all work activities, including monitoring contractor/vendor safety in support of work efforts.

**Your day-to-day**
- Lead process development projects and investigations related to understanding and improving process capability and product quality
- Lead product development projects to enhance Stelco’s product offerings
- Work in a multi-disciplinary environment with Operating, Quality, Engineering and Maintenance personnel, and provide technical support for process development activities and product quality issues
- Perform in-depth statistical data analyses, summarize information into graphical and tabular formats, prepare technical reports and presentations
- Provide problem solving support for both Stelco’s Operations and customers
- Represent the company in industry and university consortium activities

**Job Qualifications**
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 10 years of industrial experience, direct experience in the Steel industry is preferred.
- A valid Ontario G or G2 Drivers License and vehicle is required

**Job Skills and Knowledge**
- Advanced project management experience
- Ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues within the department.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of automotive and commercial customer standards and common steel industry testing standards
- Strong knowledge and experience with hot rolling, cold rolling, annealing and coating and other steel processing activities is required
- Excellent technical leadership and verbal communication, written communication, and listening skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong knowledge of statistical data analysis and software
- Knowledge of other steel or thermodynamic software packages
- Ability to travel occasionally and work outside of normal hours if required
