About the Role
The Nanaimo African Heritage Society (NAHS) is seeking an Office Assistant to support the regular administration of our not-for-profit organization. As an Office Assistant, you will play a vital role in planning and implementing our Annual General Meeting and special events, such as Black History Month.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the NAHS team, including handling correspondence, updating databases, and maintaining electronic and paper files.
- Assist with event planning and coordination, including assembling signage display boards and assisting with special events.
- Perform general clerical duties, such as photocopying, faxing, and mailing.
- Update budget-related data using Excel spreadsheets.
- Research various subjects and topics to support the NAHS mission.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Requirements
- Experience using Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
- Typing speed of 40+ wpm.
- Professional appearance and telephone communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple deadlines.
- Prompt and reliable, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Arrangements
- Two (2) month commitment for 2-5 days a week during office hours (Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm).
- Two (2) month commitment for 15-30 hours per week with some evening and weekend hours.
