Director of Resident Care Leadership Position

About This Role
The Director of Resident Care will lead the nursing team and collaborate with the Management team at Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long Term Care Centre to start the operation. This role is responsible for preparing and participating in the Pre-Occupancy inspection, selecting and finalizing service agreements with nursing service providers, and managing day-to-day nursing services upon receiving the license issued by the Ministry of Long Term Care.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead the nursing team and collaborate with the Management team to achieve the centre's mission and goals.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective nursing services.
- Resident-Centred Care
- Ensure and promote resident-centred care by providing resident-driven personal support care and services.
- Support and provide a resident advocacy program through promotion and respect of the Residents' Bill of Rights.
- Nursing and Personal Care Services
- Develop and implement nursing and personal care services to meet individual resident and/or Substitute Decision Makers' needs and expectations.
- Ensure required resources (human, fiscal, and material) are available and quality is meeting resident care needs.
- Quality and Risk Management
- Ensure the safety of residents through the provision and activities of Infection Prevention and Control Committee and Quality and Risk Management Committee.
- Participate as a member of the Management Committee.
- Human Resource Management
- Develop a human resource and back-up plan which provides a staffing mix that is consistent with residents' assessed care and safety needs.
- Establish, review, and approve revisions of qualifications, responsibilities, and functions for nursing positions.
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Ensure nursing staff are provided with necessary instructions/orientation regarding measures and procedures to be taken.
- Ensure that all lost time accidents are investigated and recommendations of the Joint Health and Safety Committee are implemented.
- Material Resources
- Prepare and implement nursing budget plan and administer the approved budget as per policies and procedures of the centre and/or the set criteria of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care as appropriate.
- Provide professional input regarding the need and use of equipment and supplies for resident care.
- Education and Certification
- Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current membership with the Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) is desirable.
- Work Experience
- At least 1 year of experience working as a registered nurse in the long-term care sector.
- At least 3 years of experience working as a registered nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a healthcare setting.
