Director of Resident Care

Mon Sheong Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Resident Care to lead our nursing team and collaborate with the Management team to start the operation of our new long-term care centre.
Responsibilities:- Work with the Administrator to prepare for the Pre-Occupancy Plan
- Prepare and Participate in the Pre-Occupancy inspection
- Select and finalize the service agreement with nursing service providers
- Manage the day-to-day nursing services/operation upon receiving the license issued by the Ministry of Long Term Care
- Ensure and Promote Resident-centered Care
- Promote the philosophy and practices of resident-centeredness and statement of purpose of Nursing and Personal Care Services
- Support and provide a resident advocacy program through promotion and respect of the Residents' Bill of Rights
- Support residents in achieving quality experiences: personal, social, emotional and cultural
- Facilitate relationship between and among residents and family members, staff, volunteers and community
- Ensure a comfortable and safe environment that provides opportunities for privacy, dignity, control and maintenance of personal lifestyle
- Ensure an environment with ambiance conducive to the provision and practice of therapeutically effective resident health care, yet is unobtrusive
- Set annual departmental goals and objectives that are congruent with the mission of the Home and promote resident-centered care that is consistent with advances in gerontology
- Set, monitor and improve standards of nursing and personal support care services
- Participate in strategic planning of the Home and interdisciplinary Resident Care Team
- Develop and ensure implementation of policies and procedures of nursing services and personal support care to meet individual resident and/or Substitute Decision Makers' needs and expectations
- Ensure required resources (human, fiscal and material) are available and quality is meeting resident care needs
- Ensure the safety of residents through the provision and activities of Infection Prevention and Control Committee and Quality and Risk Management Committee
- Participate as a member of Management Committee
- Ensure representation of staff in home committees related to nursing care and services
- Provide input to the appointment of a Medical Director and service providers
- Collaborate with administrator, medical staff and other health care disciplines and services to meet the residents' health care needs
- Work with the Social Services Coordinator to liaise with Placement Coordination Service of the Local Health Integration Network reviewing and approving individuals appropriate for placement as part of Admission and Discharge Committee
- Network with other long term care facilities, community services and educational organizations in establishing good relationships and promote the professional image of the Home
- Support and participate in the education and research programs conducted by the Home and other professional agencies
- Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence from College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current membership with Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) is desirable
- Possession of valid CPR (Health Care Provider Level C) and First Aid certificates
- Post-RN education in nursing administration and management; preference is BScN and/or business degree in health management particularly long term care and further education in gerontology, geriatrics, or rehabilitation
- At least 1 year of experience working as a registered nurse in the long-term care sector
- At least 3 years of experience working as a registered nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting
- Team player with a customer service focus who exhibits leadership, initiative, and continuous improvement
- Demonstrates caring and respectful behavior with strong clinical, assessment, conflict management, communication, and organization skills
- Proficiency in oral and written English
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an asset
- Relevant computer literacy
