Job Title: Youth Counsellor

We are seeking a qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Youth Counsellor at Vantage Community Services.

Job Summary:

The Youth Counsellor will be responsible for providing a structured environment that fosters the development of personal and social functioning for each youth. The successful candidate will be an effective, mature, and appropriate role model for each youth and will work effectively with other members of the team in providing a therapeutic milieu.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement and maintain a structured environment that fosters the development of an appropriate level of personal and social functioning for each youth.
  • Be an effective, mature, and appropriate role model for each youth to utilize in their growth.
  • Work effectively with other members of the team in providing a therapeutic milieu.
  • Develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship with youth in the program through the implementation of the Circle of Courage model.
  • Participate actively in supervisory meetings, team meetings, retreats, planning sessions, and designated in-service training as required.
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Maintain the upkeep of the group care living space of the unit as applicable, and ensure the provision of a program that fits the requirements of the Licensing Department.
  • Be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with program functioning including meal preparation, cleaning, and transportation of young people.
  • Administer medication according to policy and CAC standards.
Requirements:
  • A diploma or undergraduate degree in Human Services such as Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Experience in working with young people is preferred.
  • Must have current Standard First Aid/Level C CPR, PIC, IRC, Valid Driver's License, and Driver's Abstract.

The annual salary range for this position is $36,811 - placement on union salary grid based on education and years of relevant experience. There is an additional shift differential paid on hours worked on overnight shifts.
