Job Description

As a Commodity Trader with Doman Building Materials Group Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in driving excellent customer service and laying the groundwork for successful orders. Your primary responsibility will be to buy and sell lumber, OSB, wood panels, and other selected product categories such as Rebar, Rim Board, etc.

This involves engaging in ongoing dialogue with customers to assess their current and projected needs, responding to daily fluctuations in price and market conditions, and conducting proactive outbound sales calls to determine customer needs and offer immediate quotes.

The ideal candidate should have a strong ability to communicate effectively with contacts at all levels through excellent customer service skills on the phone and via email. You must also be able to anticipate, understand, and successfully navigate fluctuating market conditions, developing and sharing an opinion on market conditions based on information from customers and suppliers.

In this role, you will work closely with the General Manager, National OSB and Panel Manager, and National Lumber Procurement Manager to ensure seamless communication and coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchasing and selling lumber, OSB, wood panels, and other selected product categories.
  • Driving excellent customer service and ensuring order accuracy.
  • Conducting proactive outbound sales calls to determine customer needs and offer immediate quotes.
  • Navigating fluctuating market conditions and developing an opinion on market conditions.
  • Communicating effectively with contacts at all levels through excellent customer service skills.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:
  • A strong knowledge of commodity lumber products in a wholesale, distribution or retail environment.
  • The ability to quickly learn new applications and technology.
  • Aptitude for numerical calculations and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent English communication skills that display professionalism, good business acumen, and strong business ethics.
  • A highly motivated, engaged, and self-starting individual with a positive attitude.
