About the Job:

As a Mental Health Nursing Specialist with Fraser Health, you will work collaboratively with an interprofessional care team to provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care to patients with psychiatric needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial and ongoing mental health assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Provide direct nursing care, including crisis intervention, counseling, and group facilitation.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Department staff, other allied health department service providers, and community resources to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families/caregivers, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Educate patients and families about topics essential to their healthcare and well-being.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing, current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, and one year recent related experience in an acute or community Mental Health & Substance Use setting.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to complete mental health and substance use patient assessments and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Counselling and group facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to mental health and substance use practices.
