About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Virtual Psychiatry Unit as a Mental Health Nurse Specialist. In this role, you will provide and coordinate the delivery of psychiatric nursing care services to patients, demonstrating nursing expertise and providing clinical leadership in evidence-based practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, identifying actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis, plans interventions, performs planned interventions, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the unit, actively engaging with members of the healthcare team to provide patient-centered care.
  • Collect information from various sources using observation, communication, and physical assessment skills to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care, including remote monitoring via approved technology when required.
  • Document timely and accurate reports of relevant assessments and observations, including patient and family education, and evaluation of nursing care, utilizing available software/hardware applications for data collection and analysis.
  • Communicate and consult with healthcare team members about patients' care, setting priorities, assigning, and delegating tasks to support staff, participating in interprofessional conferences, and explaining the plan of care to patients and their families.
  • Act as an advocate to protect and promote patients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data, contributing to the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One year recent related experience in inpatient mental health services, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current Class 5 Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
