Strategic Energy Manager for Canadian Retail Portfolio

This esteemed organization is a leading owner, manager, and developer of well-located retail and commercial real estate across Canada.

With a portfolio spanning approximately 65 million square feet of gross leasable area, comprising over 700 properties primarily focused on supermarket-anchored shopping centers and stand-alone supermarkets.

**Location:** This hybrid role combines office work in downtown Toronto (3 days per week) with the flexibility to adapt to evolving market conditions.

The Senior Director, Asset Management will play a pivotal role in reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions across our extensive portfolio of retail, industrial, office, and residential properties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives to reduce energy and emissions through strategic decarbonization planning.
  • Take a lead role in implementing identified decarbonization strategies aligned with our long-term net zero goal.
  • Identify and integrate risks and opportunities related to decarbonization into enterprise risk management.
  • Prepare well-structured reports and present them to senior executives to inform decision-making.

**Project Implementation:

  • Manage the execution of decarbonization initiatives, ensuring timely delivery within budget and targeted outcomes for existing operations and new developments.
  • Analyze and prioritize projects that cut energy and emissions, such as upgrades and changes to operational practices.
  • Manage external consultants to provide ongoing performance data for review on future projects.
  • Provide technical guidance for the implementation of energy and carbon reduction retrofits, metering, data collection, and solar projects.

**Deliverables and Qualifications:)

  • Demonstrate expertise in building energy and carbon reduction strategies, data analytics, and sustainability practices.
  • Showcase skills in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively manage and lead projects involving internal stakeholders.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, systems, electrical, or related fields).
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP), CCP (Certified Commissioning Professional) accreditation are highly valued.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in energy management for various types of real estate (retail, industrial, or multi-unit residential) with a proven track record of reducing energy usage and emissions.

Estimated Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
