About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and direction to ensure that services are provided to residents, stakeholders, and employees in a timely, effective, and efficient manner.

The Deputy Fire Chief will oversee Fire Services personnel, providing leadership and guidance, and work in conjunction with the Fire Chief to develop short- and long-term strategies for the department.

The ideal candidate will have ten or more years of progressively responsible work experience within a fire service with comprehensive technical training across relevant areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise operational area with an emphasis on efficiency, accuracy, quality, and safety to ensure a superior service.
  • Provide on-going feedback, mentoring, and coaching to direct reports such as Battalion Captains and Paid Per Call Station Chiefs, and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Collaborate with Paid Per Call and full-time station leadership to identify operational requirements.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Paid Per Call Station Chiefs and community inquiries regarding fire services administration.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree or diploma in emergency management or a related field and have demonstrated leadership skills, team building, conflict resolution, coaching, and mentoring abilities.

They will also have excellent verbal communication, presentation, and business/technical writing skills, as well as superior customer service skills to both internal and external customers.

A clean criminal record, physical agility, and stamina sufficient to perform all functions in adverse conditions are also required.

The estimated salary for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
