About the Role

As an Animal Care Specialist, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care and attention to detail to animals in our shelter. This includes preparing food and feed, cleaning and disinfecting enclosures, and maintaining accurate records of animal treatment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare food and feed animals according to their dietary needs
  • Clean and disinfect cages, pens, aquariums, kennels, runs, stalls, and enclosures to maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Keep accurate records of animal treatment, including vaccinations and medical procedures
  • Assist with inoculation and treatment of animals under the supervision of veterinary staff
  • Maintain and order supplies as needed to ensure efficient operations
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in animal care or a related field
  • A valid driver's license, as transportation to off-site locations may be required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks that involve bending, crouching, kneeling, and lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
Work Environment

The NS SPCA is a dynamic and supportive work environment that values teamwork and collaboration. As an Animal Care Specialist, you will work closely with other animal care staff, veterinarians, and volunteers to provide the best possible care for our animals.

Compensation

This full-time position offers a competitive salary of $45,000 per year, commensurate with experience. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, you will receive regular opportunities for professional development and growth within our organization.
