Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high level of expertise in assistive technology and low vision rehabilitation. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing individuals with sight loss, recommending and demonstrating assistive technology solutions, and providing training and support to help them achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess individuals with sight loss to identify their personal needs and requirements for assistive technology solutions.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive assessment reports and recommendations for assistive technology and training solutions.
  • Provide training and support to individuals on the use of assistive technology, including setup and configuration of assistive devices.
  • Deliver public speaking seminars and workshops on assistive technology and related topics to community agencies and groups.
  • Conduct assessments and contribute to reports relating to workplace accommodation for individuals with sight loss.
  • Provide support and consultation to individuals and their support system relating to adjustment to vision loss.
  • Liaise and build relationships with funding agencies, vendors, educational institutions, and other third-party organizations on behalf of clients.
  • Assist with the training, placement, and supervision of volunteers and students.
Requirements
  • College diploma or university degree in technology.
  • Courses or certificate in teaching and training.
  • Graduate of training courses designed or delivered by Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada or an external provider on behalf of VLRC.
  • Extensive knowledge of blindness and low vision assistive technology.
  • Good command of relevant computer applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Bilingual, French and English as an asset.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will be required to work in VLRC centers, individual homes, and/or the community. A willingness to work flexible hours and travel overnight is also required.
