Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Coding Standards and Data Quality Specialist to join our team at Providence Health Care. As a key member of our Health Information Management department, you will be responsible for leading coding standards and data quality initiatives, providing expert guidance and support to our coding team, and ensuring the highest level of data quality and integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead coding standards and data quality initiatives to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver coding training materials for new hires, practicum students, and returning staff.
  • Serve as the internal point of contact for coding queries and liaise with external stakeholders to address coding and data abstraction standards.
  • Act as a liaison between coding coordinators, leadership, and other HIM teams to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Work with coding application specialists to explore new modes of healthcare delivery and adjust work processes as needed.
  • Develop and recommend data quality audit processes and ensure implementation.
  • Assist with the development of testing tools for hiring coding staff and define acceptable proficiency levels.
  • Liaise with the LM HIM Leadership Team to ensure coding standards and data quality efforts align with organizational goals.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Health Information Management diploma or bachelor program.
  • Five years of recent experience in coding inpatient and surgical day care records in a tertiary setting, including two years as a data analytics or data quality analyst.
  • Canadian College of Health Information Management (CHIM) certification and active membership with the Canadian Association of Health Information Management (CHIMA).
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and teach staff, as well as develop learning materials and tools.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires occasional travel to HIM sites to provide in-person services. The successful candidate must have a valid BC Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
